When you walk through the streets in the morning, the bread has probably already been delivered by hanging it at the door or fence. However, also in the early morning the dogs are on the watch and have an eye on people passing bye.
Many houses are built in a simply way, but usually multiple flowers and trees will make the terrace a colorful and shady place inviting you to rest there.
Transportation also is an important part of the everyday life. People on Chios rarely walk. The preferred way of getting around the island is the motorcycle or scooter. Even if the people here have to transport construction materials or their dog, they usually do so on their scooter. However, sometimes you might also see someone using donkeys as carriers for garden waste or water canisters.
Most towns also have monuments to honor their famous ancestors of whom they tend to be quite proud. In general, the history of the island is very important to the locals.
